Entertainment is the art of giving pleasure, diversion, or amusement: a crossword puzzle; a ball; a concert; a political scandal. Entertaining activities may be public or private; scripted and staged, like a play, opera, or movie; or unscripted and spontaneous, as in a sports event, game, or war. Entertainment is often associated with humor and fun, but it can also be serious or profound: a satire, ceremony, or religious festival; the esthetic impact of a building or landscape.
It is common to abbreviate the word entertainment to entmt on fliers and in industry news publications, where space is limited.
