MY PERSONAL JOURNEY

Relationships

Relationships are a connection between two people and often include an emotional closeness, feelings of romance or love and sexual intimacy. A relationship may be formalized as a marriage or it may be casual, as in a friendship. A relationship is usually a mutually supportive connection that lasts for the long term.

Having healthy relationships is important for your mental and physical health. Research has shown that having good social connections can help you avoid depression and anxiety, increase your self-esteem, and improve your immune system. Having a partner that makes you happy and understands you can make a huge difference in your life. They can be a shoulder to lean on when you’re having a bad day, and someone who will always be there for you, no matter what happens in your life.

Intimate relationships can be complicated, especially when it comes to trust and expectations. They require honesty, respect and open communication. It is also important to have some individual interests and space. It is important for couples to discuss and agree upon boundaries before problems arise. There should be no imbalance of power in a relationship and the partners should feel comfortable making their own decisions without fear of retaliation. It is also important for partners to have friends outside of their relationship and to be able to spend time with them without feeling guilty. This can provide some much needed perspective and keep the partnership fresh and fun.
