Mental Health and Relationships

Relationships

Relationships

A connection between people: a parent/child relationship, friendships, teacher/student relationships, or other types of kinship. Often, these relationships are mutually beneficial and contribute to our quality of life in significant ways.

Having healthy, meaningful relationships is one of the best things you can do for your mental health. Being in a relationship has been linked to lower stress levels, better sleep, fewer depressive symptoms, and stronger immune systems. It also helps you stay on track with your wellness goals. Having someone to encourage you, cheer for you, and be there for you through life’s ups and downs is invaluable.

The key to a healthy relationship is finding balance. This can look different for everyone, but typically means that you and your partner are able to share the same level of affection, energy, and love, as well as respect and support each other.

It may also mean that you’re able to communicate openly when you don’t agree with your partner. While this can be challenging, it’s essential to a strong relationship. You can also help ensure that your needs are met by working together to find solutions that work for both of you. For example, if you need to schedule your time and responsibilities differently, that’s okay as long as you can both make it work. You can also try to accept that not every problem can be solved, especially if your differences are about deep-rooted values and beliefs.
