Entertaiment is an evolving collection of media, art and design in a range of genres including film, music, photography, books, architecture and new digital forms. It includes entertainment for every age and interest. The collection includes the most famous works from across the entertainment industry and shows how familiar themes have crossed and recrossed the media. It is a record of how people have responded to and shared the things that entertain them. Entertainment is often a form of amusement, but it may also have serious intent, such as in the case of ceremony, religious festival, satire or any number of other events.
The word entertainment derives from the medieval Latin intertenere and the Indo-European root ten. It has always had an element of the aesthetic but its core purpose is to stimulate and realease seratonin and dopamine which the brain was evolved to respond to deeply.
